Dami Makinde was born in Nigeria and relocated to the UK at the age of 8. In February 2015, she joined Just for Kids Law on the Let Us Learn campaign after discovering she would not be eligible for student finance, despite having lawful status in the county. Since being a part of the movement, Dami turned a loose group of individuals into a coherent campaign team, became an Eisenhower Youth Fellow and spent a year working for Sadiq Khan (Mayor of London) on the Social Integration Team. She Co-Leads Let Us Learn and she is now about to start her own charitable organisation with Let Us Learn founder Chrisann Jarret. The new organisation, called 'We Belong' will capitalise on the current Let Us Learn project and will build on ensuring that young migrants can contribute fully to the British society.
